Welcome to the online location of Evening Concert Series: Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, a video installation series created by Rachel Sherk and Aaron Rourk in the Spring of 2017 during an artist residency at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument. Evening Concert Series is an ongoing video-catalogue documenting improvisational interactions within specific environments. Each year, multi-media artists Rachel Sherk and Aaron Rourk choose a location to explore as they seek answers to the fundamental questions of the series: What is place? How does a place come to have meaning? How does one develop a relationship with a new place? To answer this question, Sherk and Rourk turn their gaze to the spaces that make up a place. Using video to document daily interactions with specific spaces/places, they meditate on sound, light, distance, color, weather patterns, etc. These facets of individual spaces come together to create the larger meaning of a place. Evening Concert Series has taken place in Vermont, Italy, Portugal and, most recently, Agate Fossil Beds National Monument.
